Book Review - The Queen of Wishful Milly Johnson

Welcome to my Review of The Queen of Wishful Thinking by Milly Johnson!!

What They Say:

When Lewis Harley has a health scare in his early forties, he takes it as a wake-up call. So he and his  wife Charlotte leave behind life in the fast lane and Lewis opens the antique shop he has dreamed of. Bonnie Brookland was brought up in the antiques trade and now works for the man who bought out her father’s business, but she isn’t happy there. So when she walks into Lew’s shop, she knows this is the place for her.

As Bonnie and Lew start to work together, they soon realise that there is more to their relationship than either thought. But Bonnie is trapped in an unhappy marriage, and Lew and Charlotte have more problems than they care to admit. Each has secrets in their past which are about to be uncovered. Can they find the happiness they both deserve?

What I Say:

Well, for starters, this is the first book review I have done in a really long time that isn't for a blog tour! Feels good to be back on my blog!

Now, onto the review. As a member of #TeamMilly and a huuuuuge fan of the lady herself, I was thrilled and overjoyed to receive a gorgeous hardback copy (Milly's first one!) of this stunning book. I always know I'm in for a treat when a new Milly book arrives and this was no exception.

I instantly warmed to Bonnie. I felt like, a year ago, I was her. Stuck in a loveless, controlled relationship with someone who does nothing but wear you down and tell you that you can't survive without them. I rooted for her to be strong and work hard for what she deserved. I love how she's colourful and quirky and kind. She is the kind of woman you really want in your life.

Lew is also a great character that I was instantly attached (and more than a little) attracted to. I have a perfect picture of him in my head and I like what I see! He is a strong, caring, determined man and he wants the best for those he cares about. Who doesn't want someone like that? Watching Lew and Bonnie interact is a wonderful thing. They are genuinely great together as a co-workers and friends.

Some of the other characters we meet are Charlotte, Lew's wife and her friends Gemma and Regina, along with their spouses. There is a lot to be said about this lot, but I won't say much. I think there are some wrong pairings here and I would have liked things to be different. But I guess that's what makes the book more dynamic and tense. We also meet some of the antique dealers. They are a fun bunch and each scene they were in made me smile. I adored Vintage Valerie. I need someone like her in my life.

The way this book is woven is just perfect. It's such a beautiful, easy read without being predictable. It's sweet without being cheesy and it's tense without forgetting to be lovely. There is the typical Milly Johnson humour and dialogue too, which always makes me laugh out loud.

Put simply, the only bad thing about The Queen of Wishful Thinking is that it had to end! 11/10

Why I'm Shaving My Head for Lancashire Women

Hi there! I know it's been ages since I've done a personal blog post.      Things have been... weird. I know the whole world has struggled getting used to this new normal and the new measures we have to follow. So many people have lost so much to COVID and my heart breaks for them. And while the virus itself hasn't changed my life very much, this time of lockdowns and self-isolating has been really hard for me too.      When it all first started to change, Steve was taken into hospital with a bunch of different symptoms. COVID wasn't really a thing then, so he wasn't tested for it, but looking back, we're pretty sure that's what it was. While he was in hospital in March, an inspector from the RSPCA came to check on the welfare of our dogs as they'd had a report that Sky, our GSD, was too skinny. She is petite, a slim girl who didn't have a good start in life but is spoilt rotten now, along with our other 2, Bella and Minnie. They had no concerns and
